Today I took it to the dealer for programming. The edge cut key fobs are a lot cheaper, but not compatible with my 2017. Came with an uncut emergency key (mine is the squared-off laser cut key). I decided to get an OEM Jeep renegade key fob on Amazon for 70 bucks.
But Murphy will undoubtedly visit this Renegade because I only have one key. I'd rather go the cheapie route, naturally, as all my spare keys have never been used. If I lose this one-off key that I have, I'm hosed.
Has anyone ever tried this ? Did it work ? While I have never lost a car key in my life, I always had a spare key "just in case". The reviews are scattered, some say yes, some say no. I'm willing to go the OEM route IF they actually work. The prices are the most attractive part the OEM looking keys are 59 bucks, the generics are 39. They all claim they are blank keys and can be programmed by the dealer, the emergency key can also be cut at the dealer. The pics (which really mean nothing) look exactly as my fob, Jeep name and all. On Amazon there are a LOT of fobs for sale, some look generic, some look (and claim) to be OEM. Sorry in advance if this has been asked ad nauseam. I tried searching the forum for my question but apparently my search-fu skills are weak, I couldn't find anything and I'm almost positive I'm not the first to ask this question. I know I can buy another fob at the dealer, but the price and programming made my butt hurt. I bought my 2017 Latitude (with keyless start) used and it only came with one key fob.
